JFK Speedbird

Concorde - The last departure from JFK

Delta Airlines A350-900 overflying Detroit, Michigan.

On the morning of October 24th, 2003, the British Airways Concorde registered G-BOAG, operating as flight number BA002 under the command of Captain Mike Bannister performed Concorde's last commercial flight from New York’s JFK International Airport to London's Heathrow. Footage of Concorde’s final revenue flight from the United States was seen around the world, with the aircraft performing a spectacular takeoff in the golden glow of the early morning sunlight, culminating with a dramatic low level left turn as part of the renowned Canarsie Climb.

Pilots in other aircraft realizing the serendipity of the moment had asked JFK’s control tower if they could remain stationary to watch the famous aircraft perform her final departure from JFK. Naturally the controllers consented and all who were able to do so watched with admiration as the Concorde leapt with awesome power into the skies above New York for the last time. Approximately three and a half hours later G-BOAG joined up behind two other British Airways Concordes, G-BOAE and G-BOAF, that had been waiting in holding patterns towards the conclusion of their respective flights, to form a spectacular three ship arrival sequence into Heathrow, thus bringing to a close Concordes illustrious 27 year service with British Airways.
