Her Majesty The Queen

British Airways 747-400 departing SFO

After departing SFO on a balmy late afternoon a British Airways Boeing 747-400 climbs serenely over the picturesque American Pacific Coast and San Francisco. This is a familiar departure for the Queen of the Skies which takes her on her way home to London Heathrow.

The Boeing 747 entered service for British Airways in March 1974 when BOAC merged with British European Airways and BA was formed. The new company subsequently inherited aircraft from its progenitors’ existing fleet of 747’s. BA would go on to become the largest operator of Boeing 747-400 in the world.

G-CIVY or ‘Victor Yankee’, was one of the last two aircraft to depart LHR at the cessation of 747 operations for British Airways, and the last to wear the standard and current British Airways livery.
