Emirates 777-300ER over the Himalayas

Streaking across the sky above the mountaintops of the vast chain of peaks that make up the world famous Himalayas, the highest mountain range in the world, an Emirates 777-300ER traverses this treacherous stretch of flight from Western Asia to the East, on a carefully orchestrated flight path. Depending on prevailing weather conditions, the flight across the Himalayas must be conducted on an appropriate pre-determined track route from which the terrain height is assessed within 10 nautical miles on either side. At times on a flight such as this the clearance from the terrain below can be as little as 2,000 feet, and the aircrafts ground speed indication can be greater than 600 kts (over 1100 kph).
