Having taken off towards the morning sun on a clear winter’s day in Dubai, the four-engined Emirates Airbus A340-500 gains altitude over the expansive desert terrain to the east, before turning back towards the Sheikh Zayed Road to treat its passengers to a splendid view of the city as it passes close to the Burj Khalifa and departs Dubai airspace out over the Arabian Gulf, and onward towards its destination of the European continent.
The A340-500 was one of the world’s longest-range commercial airliners with a range of over 15,742km (8500nm). It is powered by four Rolls-Royce Trent 500 series turbofan jet engines, each capable of producing 53,000lbs of thrust.
