Flight Of The Emirates

The Emirates Airlines Fleet – Past, Present and Future

On the 25th of October 1985, the first commercial flight of the Emirates airline was accomplished with an Airbus A300 B4, flying from Dubai to Karachi. Today, 25 years later, Emirates has grown into one of the world’s largest and most modern airlines, and one of the most recognisable global brands. With a fleet of over 150 airframes, Emirates’ meteoric rise to the top of the international airline industry has been a staggering feat, and in the process has played a major role in the development of the city of Dubai, helping transform the city into a major international destination, as an economic, social, technological and architectural marvel.

Starting with its small fleet, which included Airbus A300s and A310s, Boeing 727s and one 737, the company went on to acquire and operate A330-200s, A340-300s and A340-500s.
Simultaneously the company started building its fleet of Boeing 777 aircraft with the arrival of its first 777-200 in 1996, and eventually became the largest operator of this type in the world. Emirates’ 777 fleet boasts a growing inventory of over 80 airframes across all variants and has almost 50 more on order.

Emirates holds the honour of having been a launch customer for the Airbus A380, aboard which it offers an unrivalled service experience. The company’s intention to acquire 90 airframes of this type will cement its place as the world’s largest operator of the A380. Emirates constantly looks to the future for growth and improvement to its fleet. Among the company’s plans for fleet expansion are orders for the futuristic Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
