A Singapore Airlines Airbus A310 having departed from runway 20L, climbs majestically away from Singapore Changi Airport, and out over the Singapore Strait.

Between 1984 and 2005 Singapore Airlines operated its fleet of A310s. The airline was in search of a replacement aircraft for its then aging Boeing 727s it eventually settled on the A310s, basing its decision on choosing the aircraft with the ‘best technology, and fuel efficiencies, and passenger comfort’.

Deliveries of the type to Singapore began in late 1984 and would culminate in an eventual 23 orders across both A310-200 and -300 variants. The A310’s flew short to medium-haul routes for the airline, usually around South East Asian cities, but also to some medium range destinations.

The last Singapore Airlines A310 was retired in November 2005, replaced by the Boeing 777.
