On a bright clear morning over Dubai an Emirates Airline Airbus A380-800 climbs over the downtown precinct of this famous and dynamic cosmopolitan city. Having taken off from an easterly runway towards the desert interior of the Arabian Peninsula this graceful giant of an aircraft then takes a series of sweeping right turns, on its way passing overhead the suburbs of Silicon Oasis, Meydan South and Meydan Heights, before finally heading back for the coast of Dubai and onward to a distant destination, perhaps to Europe or the Americas.
With a wingspan of 79.75m (261 ft 8 in) and powered by four high bypass turbofan engines each producing a maximum thrust in excess of 311kN (or more than 70,000 lbf), this magnificent aircraft truely is the Superjumbo
