Like a river of sapphires the Bosporus Straight carves its way through the centre of the ancient Turkish capital of Istanbul, a city steeped in history and wonder. Overhead a Turkish Airlines Boeing 777-300 ER has taken off from the new Istanbul Havalimanı Airport, flying south to one of many Middle East destinations. On its way the aircraft gains altitude over the Sea of Marmara, providing a splendid view of Istanbul and its famous and eternal companion the Bosporus, stretching all the way north to the Black Sea beyond.
