The Queen of San Francisco

United 747-400 over San Francisco

Almost as if to serenely survey her dominion this Queen of the Skies, the United Airlines Boeing 747-400, soars high over the San Francisco Bay Area with all of its famous landmarks, as she settles into one of her countless flights to distant and exotic destinations.
Though she has since come to the end her reign in her capacity as United’s flagship, she is held in the hearts of all who worked on her, traveled the world upon her sturdy wings, or simply marveled at her grandeur and were inspired to dream of greater things.
The Boeing 747 first entered service for United Airlines on July 23, 1970 and after a long and distinguished deployment which spanned some 47 years across multiple variants of the type, the last commercial 747 flight for United took place on November 7, 2017.
The United Airlines Boeing 747-400 was powered by four Pratt and Whitney PW4062 turbofan engines capable of producing a combined thrust in excess of 250,000 lbf (1112 kN).
