United Airlines Boeing 777-300 ER on departure from San Francisco

Delta Airlines A350-900 overflying Detroit, Michigan.

After taking off east from San Francisco International Airport a United Airlines Boeing 777-300ER climbs over the famous San Francisco Bay, and onward over Oakland and the eastern suburbs of the Bay Area.

After the long reign of the Boeing 747 Queen Of The Skies, her little sister the Boeing 777-300ER has emerged as the heir apparent as the flagship for United. Where once a huge aircraft such as this required four engines or more to produce the tremendous thrust required to lift it to the heavens, the mighty 777 only needs two – such is the enormous power of today’s engine technology. The United Airlines 777-300ER is powered by two General Electric GE90-115B high bypass turbofan engines, each capable of producing up to 115,300 lbf (over 512 kN).
