The sun sets over another busy day in Australia’s national capital of Canberraand now only the surrounding hills and the clouds briefly capture the last light of the day, as a Virgin Blue Airlines E190 Climbs high above the city and turns west into the setting sun. Swiftly and comfortably it carries its passengers homeward to Adelaide. The E-Jet was a newly heralded competitor in the regional jet sector and its deployment by Virgin Blue helped the company push into previously uncontested domestic markets, offering jet services to regional ports while also giving the company strategic flexibility on established trunk routes.
The ERJ 190 is equipped with two 82.3kN (18,500lb) CF34-10E turbofan jet engines, propellining the jet to a maximum cruising speed of Mach 0.82 (481kts or 890kmh).
